Convention season with its myriad conferences is in full swing. Add to that schedule the fact that Thanksgiving is suddenly upon us. And we have a swirling holiday added to high gear conventions and conferences here in Orlando. This article will bring you the ramifications of this busy time and more. But first…We would be remiss if we did not take this opportunity to express our Gratitude and thank our community for their business and support.
Bullhorns full of Gratitude
This week our attitude is full of gratitude. There could not be a better time to send out our thanks amidst the hustle and bustle of the convention season. Bullhorn Media thanks our friends, family, business associations, co-workers and clients, old and new. Your friendship and confidence have been a blessing to our business.
Convention Season, Our Bullhorn Symbol, and the Thanksgiving Cornucopia
It’s very fitting that we bring you, our blog readers and friends, a bullhorn full of thanks. You see this phrase reminds us of the traditional cornucopia full of harvested fruit and vegetables.
That kind of horn-of-plenty has become a symbol of overflowing blessings. In the interest of a little Thanksgiving Trivia, the Cornucopia was a curved goat’s horn.
“According to Greek legend, Amalthea (a goat) broke one of her horns and offered it to Greek God Zeus as a sign of reverence. As a sign of gratitude, Zeus later set the goat’s image in the sky also known as constellation Capricorn.” Now you know the legend behind the trivia.
Thus we know the Cornucopia was a common symbol of a harvest festival. Likewise, you know that Bullhorn is our symbol for our media business. And today we fill it with Thanksgiving gratitude and blasts of appreciation. Our Bullhorn full of gratitude thanks you over and over for the blessings of your business and friendship, both old and new.
Convention Season Packed: Thanksgiving Time in Orlando
We also want to take this opportunity to give a shout out to all the wonderful folks who are hosting or attending conventions and conferences. They could not have chosen a better place than our town. Last week we mentioned a few of the public events happening at the gorgeous Orange County Convention Center. Check into them if they catch your interest.
This week we want to send out an official Welcome and a Bullhorn Media Shout-out to a few of the OCCC Conventions happening very soon.
Conference Season Brings Great Variety
- Over 300 attendees are scheduled for the Headstart Training Program Nov. 26. These folks are planning serious hard work, training to help our country’s best resource, our young. This convention is not open to the public, but we wanted you to know about it. We’re proud that Orlando is hosting this conference.
- Dec. 7-9 are Red Letter dates the Conference of the American Society of Hematology 2019. Again, this is not a convention that is open to the public, but it will be packed with activities for 25000 attendees who work in that specialized medical field. We feel blessed Orlando specifically that our OCCC has the facilities to hold such a sizeable convention.
- Likewise, we are giving a big Bullhorn Media shout out to the upcoming convention of I/ITSEC, the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation & Education Conference 2019. Their convention is coming to the OCCC with 20,000 attendees.
- On Dec. 14 and 15, Spirit Cheer will bring 5000 competitors and members to their convention in for cheerleaders. The top team at the day’s competition will have the honor of performing as the half time entertainment for an NBA game. “Today, Spirit Cheer is known for producing cost-effective and fun cheer-leading events for all ages and abilities around the country.” Likewise, this is a closed event, but aren’t you proud Orlando and OCCC give them a top-flight performance space and convention experience?
A Bullhorn Full of Sports
Unlike the above events, the KSA Classic Basketball Tournament is open to the public with tickets. Moreover, this is not exactly a convention and certainly not a stuffy old conference. It’s basketball. The action is on December 18 for this well-known boys’ basketball competition. Tickets are available at this trusted online resource. They expect a crowd of 5,000 strong.
Convention Season and Thanksgiving Combine for High Traffic
One of the effects of both the convention season and the Thanksgiving Holiday is our world-famous bumper to bumper Orlando Traffic. The AAA has estimated there will be more than 55 Million Travelers on US Roads this Thanksgiving.
If that prediction holds true, we will see the second-highest Thanksgiving travel volume since 2,000 when AAA first started its tracking.
With convention season and Thanksgiving combining, an additional 1.6 million more people will swell the ranks of travelers over last year. For those of you who love statistics, that is a 2.9% increase.
In Orlando, we’re sending a Bullhorn traffic warning for Wednesday afternoon. This is the worst time for you and your family to be on the road. Trips might take 4 times longer than usual. To be safe, plan ahead and leave for your fun destinations early.
Paula Twidale, vice president, AAA Travel, stated: “Millions of thankful Americans are starting the holiday season off right with a Thanksgiving getaway.” He added, “Strong economic fundamentals are motivating Americans to venture out this holiday in near-record numbers. Consumer spending remains strong, thanks to increasing wages, disposable income and household wealth. So, travel remains one of their top priorities for the holiday season.”
Parting Thoughts for Thanksgiving
Thus, Whether you are going to grandmother’s house, one of our many Thanksgiving-themed shows and Orlando events or an Orlando-based convention. Thanksgiving is a time to count our blessings. So we want you to drive our wonderful Orlando streets and highways safely. If you will be going to the OCCC soon, be sure to check out one of our previous blogs all about it.
It’s an old adage, but it’s true that the life you save could be your own.
We take this opportunity to share with you one of our favorite Thanksgiving quotations:
“Thanksgiving Day is a jewel,
to set in the hearts of honest men;
but be careful that you do not take the day,
and leave out the gratitude.”
Written by E.P. Powell, these brief but powerful words capture the spirit of Thanksgiving. And from behind our special event cameras and convention lenses, the Bullhorn family wishes a Happy, Healthy and Safe Thanksgiving to you and your family!
