Digital Signage is all around us. Restaurants, schools, hospitals, airports, and museums have all embraced different aspects of the technology of digital signage. The signage is designed to inform, entice and entertain you. And this is not the first time we have mentioned this amazing and fast-developing area of new technology. As we have said previously, we don’t clutter our blogs with a lot of esoteric techno-speak. But there’s a big reason we like sharing the latest developments in digital signage. Either as a consumer or a business owner, you are going to constantly meet it in your daily life. That is why we call it the everyday miracle.
More Technology from Infocom 2019
This year we were incredibly impressed at how far digital signage has developed and diversified when we attended Infocom, right here in Orlando. We stated then, “We can see how far science and technology have taken holograms, VR, video, A.I.” And we added with enthusiasm, “And digital signage also fascinates and inspires us.”
Digital Signage and Modern Life
Thus, we like to update you occasionally with the amazing global developments in videography, photography and emerging media. In fact, you might enjoy reading or reviewing that first mention of digital signage. It was printed, along with new observations on AI and holography in our article from earlier this year.
We first marveled at the scope of this new technology at InfoComm 2019. There, we witnessed some of the amazing, beautiful, informative and profitable products. They were based on this technology. As we said, “Video walls have come a long way from the pixelated signs and lightboxes in the malls.”
We have also previously covered the premiere version giant video signage called Video Walls. Samsung’s Product, “The Wall Luxury” is almost more than signage. It is a “video wall is that it is so thin it virtually disappears.”
And you might like to check out that magic in our previous article which explains that Samsung has re-defined the size, screen ratio and resolution of the Video Wall. The giant product is named the Wall Luxury. We see it in hotels, corporate spaces and hospitals as modular displays based on Micro LED technology.
Where Bullhorn Media Fits Into the Digital Signage World
No matter what you create with digital signage, you need video and photography in your content. That is where Bullhorn Media comes into this technology. The signage can’t do its job unless you have a sleek, colorful, professionally created video to compliment it. And now with no further ado, let’s explore the basics of digital signage.
By way of definition, “digital signage, also called dynamic signage, is a specialized form of broad-casting in which video or multimedia content is displayed in public places for informational or advertising purposes.” To put it simply, a digital sign consists of:
- a computer or playback device,
- A large, bright digital screen such as an LCD or plasma display.
Needless to say, this medium is a very vibrant way to reach out and touch consumers because “you can deliver the message to the right customers at the right time.”
Advantages of New Technology
What can you do with a digital sign? Let’s make a magic list:
- Digital signage allows you to set times of day for event promotion.
- You can include new product releases and shows off your perfectly created photos and videos while your consumers are on site in your place of business.
- It is the ultimate attention grabber. Some are even motion-activated.
- Content creation, scheduling, hardware installation and network management are the major parts of a digital sign, regardless of the size of the display screen.
On the one hand, some companies offer full package solutions. On the other hand, some specialize in hardware installation or network management. Still others, like Bullhorn Media, provide you with content, like photography and videography.
Behind the Curtain: Like the Wizard of Oz
So here is a basic vocabulary that will help you peek behind the curtain and see what causes the magic to work.
You must realize that there are several components to a digital signage solution for a company. But these terms will help you find your digital signage solution:
- Hardware –As you might guess, these are the physical components. You’ll need screens, media players (if necessary), network components, and you must not forget the mounts with which to secure them.
- Software – This term refers to the device management system(s) you need. And it includes the playback software found on media players.
- Connectivity – Not to be overlooked. This refers to how you will connect your sign to a content management system. It could be Wi-Fi, mobile, or even a hard line
- Installation – This is so much more than plugging in a wire. It refers to the entire installation process. It includes surveying sites for the signage. And it also includes mounting and brackets to the final installation and online presence.
- Content – None of this equipment is useful if you do not invest in the largest ongoing expense of the sign. This is a continuous and ongoing cost of feeding the network with fresh, innovative, relevant content. Again, this is our contribution to the signage world.
Our Terrific Take-Aways from Digital Signage
In summary, “Digital signage uses technologies such as LCD, LED and Projection to display content such as digital images, video, streaming media, and information. You’re going to see it in more and more in public spaces. For example look for new digital signage in airports, museums, stadiums, retail stores, hotels, restaurants, and corporate buildings.
